I’m going FLYing!

I’ve been trying to figure out how to schedule my life these days. I quit my job in May to stay home with my kid, who was born in July. The first couple months we were in survival mode around here, but now that we all usually sleep at night and the kid naps semi-regularly, I’ve been at loose ends regarding time organization and general home management. I should be able to get more done around the house, it should be cleaner, and we should be eating better. In my quest to find some practical helps on this, I came across FlyLady.net. The website is semi-terrible, and I almost left it without even checking out the ideas. Then I managed to get to the good stuff. There’s a whole home organization plan that looks pretty doable, based on the ideas of (1) have a plan and (2) always do something, even if you can’t finish. I’m starting with the 31 Beginner BabySteps, which generally add one idea to a daily routine, with a few days being a break to set up a written guide for yourself. Some of the ideas need to be adapted to my life, and the website is not set up in a way that works visually for me. Therefore, I’m going to set up my blog with how this should play out in my life. I’m hoping to get each day set up in advance and auto-post at the appropriate time.

Day 1

Clean your (kitchen) sink until it shines, each time you use it.

I’ve been doing this for a couple days now, while I ponder how to go about setting this into action. Plus, it’s not a great week to try new routines. I’m giving it a shot, though, because the whole New Year’s resolution thing never works–waiting a week to stop procrastinating doesn’t seem like a great start.
