Is My Home More Organized Yet?
This is actually an update on Money Saving Mom’s assignments 16, 17, and 18. I’ve done all three of them. Monday night my computer was very troubled. Tuesday night I was having too much fun to post, so I just waited until tonight to post all three.
Monday was the day to clean my vents. This was a bit unexciting, actually. It made me realize that (a) I should have cleaned my baseboards that day I was too lazy to do them, and (b) if I’d cleaned my baseboards, I probably would have done these that day anyway and freed some time this week. I did wipe down all the baseboards within an arms reach of my vents, though. Some of my vents are a little strange, and I couldn’t easily remove them for a thorough cleaning. I pulled out my trusty toothbrush for assistance, though.
I also did my standard weekly cleaning on Monday. I’m pretty happy with my new mop, which I’ll post about in a couple of weeks.
Tuesday was the day to organize my kitchen cupboards. This wasn’t a huge deal, since I did this a month ago. I was surprised at how many things are in my cupboard that I didn’t put there. I took some stock piles to the basement for storage. I’d cleaned the bathroom a bit on Monday, so I didn’t do the 15-minute clean. Living in such a tiny home means standard cleaning really doesn’t take too long.
Today was the assignment I’d been hoping for and dreading: closets. Our coat closet was a mess. It was to the point where I’d open the door, shove something inside it, and close the door very fast.
First, I emptied my daughter’s closet. I don’t have many pictures, because my daughter was delightedly following me around the whole time. I did come to the conclusion that three diaper bags is too many to use at once. I’d been trying to alternate, but that wasn’t working so well. I decided to just use one now, and when it wears out I’ll use the next. It’s surprising how many bags I have, since I’m not somebody who buys bags. In fact, of the nine bags of purse/diaper bag/backpack size I have, I purchased two of them, and they’re both in the closet picture. They’re also both brown. I definitely use the other bags, but I need to figure out a better method to switching bags. I just did a little vacuuming around her closet, since I’d mostly vacuumed on Monday.
I emptied everything and cleaned off the irregular bottom. It required first using a dustpan to get a sizeable pile of dirt and then a wet rag to finish it.
I sent a few coats to the laundry to be washed before summer. I pondered storing coats in the basement. We don’t really have a good place for coats, and we don’t need to hang other things in this closet. My husband is not a fire fighter, he just has a very bright coat.
For the first time today, I had a little trouble finding seven things to give or throw away. I was tempted to dump a bunch of things from the closet, but I need to check with my husband before I can do that. Instead, along with some items from the closet, I dug open a box of decorations I hadn’t used since we moved three years ago and dumped a few of those.
That coat was never even mine. My friend once needed a ride to the airport in January to fly back to her tropical home. Her mom dug up her old elementary coat, and I was instructed to throw away the coat after she got to the airport. That was two years ago. This is why I need to organize my home.
