Cleaning: The Garbage Disposal

Sometimes, bad, bad smells come from our garbage disposal. Running some water and turning it on doesn’t help. My friend The Maintenance Man has an easy solution: dump a handful of ice cubes in and run the disposal. How easy is that? It makes a terrible noise, but it does seem to help. Apparently, the culprit causing those smells is that junk gets stuck on the bottom of the rubber flaps that separate the sink from the disposal. The ice is an easy way to clean the rubber.
