Mopping
As much as I love my Libman Freedom Spray Mop, there comes a day when I need to get on my hands and knees with a bucket in our kitchen. That day was earlier this week. This is a job done much easier while my child is sleeping, but it wasn’t that kind of day, so the kid was around. She’s getting pretty interested in helping around the house, so I figured she could help mop. She had an extra rag, and I had visions of her sweetly rubbing the floor next to her mommy with a grin on her face. Yeah, visions of that and some sugar-plums.
My child is into “in” and “out” right now. The red cup goes in the green cup. The block goes in the box. The milk jug comes out of the trash. The spoon goes in the bowl. I shouldn’t have been surprised that my daughter didn’t catch onto the rubbing the floor part, but rather the rag goes into the bucket, the rag comes out of the bucket. The rag goes into the bucket, the rag comes out of the bucket. Without occasionally wringing out the rag, this quickly makes the floor very wet.
Our kitchen is 10.5′ x 9.5′. With a couple cutouts for a door, appliances, and counters, the moppable area is roughly seventy square feet. The whole mopping ordeal took a good twenty minutes. Unimpressive speed.
On the positive side, once the floor and my daughter were cleaned, she considered the whole event a good twenty minutes of playing with mom and was ready to practice walking in circles around the living room by herself a while.
